The scope of works involved the removal and replacement of a structurally compromised concrete pillar affected by concrete cancer. The existing pillar exhibited significant deterioration, including spalling, cracking, and exposed corroded reinforcement. These defects compromised the pillar’s structural integrity and load-bearing capacity, necessitating full remediation.

The primary challenges identified during the planning phase included restricted material access to the work area, effective dust containment within an occupied building, and managing the risk of falling debris during breakout works.
To mitigate these risks and ensure site safety, a debris net was installed prior to commencing breakout works. A window panel was temporarily removed to establish a controlled material access point within the protected zone of the safety net. A sealed window penetration was installed to prevent dust migration into the building. M-Class vacuum attachments were used throughout all cutting and breakout activities in compliance with legislation.
